His work has focused on researching and documenting the city’s rich architectural and urban heritage—both within and beyond the Old City walls—across its many periods and styles.
Kroyanker's pioneering efforts have resulted in a vast body of work, including over 30 books and more than 150 booklets and articles published in professional and general media. His work, highly regarded by professionals and the general public alike, in Israel and abroad, has played a central role in raising awareness of the value of architectural conservation. His publications have laid a cultural foundation that allows future generations to understand the city's urban character from multiple perspectives—architectural, historical, geographical, ethnographic, political, economic, social, and human.
His work is also notable for its strong visual component, featuring historical and contemporary photographs, maps, and architectural drawings. Since the 1970s, Kroyanker has been a key figure in many public campaigns to save architecturally and historically significant neighborhoods and buildings threatened with demolition.
Awards and Recognition
David Kroyanker has received numerous awards, including the Teddy Kollek Lifetime Achievement Award, presented at the Knesset in 2006, and the Yakir Yerushalayim (Worthy Citizen of Jerusalem) award in 2010.
